Matt Henshaw = One to Watch for 2012 ...

As far as lists go, there are many on the inside and outside telling who to look out for and listen out for in 2012 ... I'm so pleased to tell you that I'm not on a list that belongs to Dante or Nostradamus but an independent music industry insider along with a whole host of other acts as one to keep an eye on over the next twelve months ... I hope I don't disappoint, and as always I'll tell all here first on my ever popular bloggity blog ...

Matt Henshaw in the mix and one to watch for 2012 ...

A Very Special Christmas Guest ... Matt Henshaw (Little Old Me!)

Morning, Afternoon, Evening, (depending upon when you catch up on your favourite blog!),

Enjoying a festive Christmas break with the family and an assortment of friends when I get a call from them jolly cockneys the Small Fakers to guest with them at The Flowerpot in Derby ... only a ten minute drive and I've never played in there before, so why not? I went on in the interval between their hits set and a full blown retelling of the classic 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake' ...

Three songs and a little bit of humorous wit from myself nattering between the three songs ...

It Ain't Easy
My Life
Bonne Nuit Madame (Goodnight My Lady)

A little minor distressing news, I'm having technical delays (namely my CD drive not working on my laptop) so I can't bring you my radio session from Tamworth as soon as I would have like, but I will find another computer to get it online for you ASAP ... although, I must be honest, between the turkey and various M&S desserts, finding a working disc drive is not at the top of my priorities, but that's not to say I don't love you ...

... and to prove I love you, here's a link to a FREE Matt Henshaw download ...

With Love, and extra Love,
Matt Henshaw.

Matt Henshaw on the radio tonight ...

Hola amigos,

I'll be heading out soon to pick up Mr. ReggiiMental and then head over to the West Midlands to appear on the radio, TCRFM I am told, and then afterwards I'm doing a secret special Christmas show, so secret I have no idea where this second show is myself. I'll tell y'all what happens no doubt.

Laughs and Giggles ...

What a "Segsational night" ... (this blog is brought to you by Terry's ... the chocolate orange people) ...

Tim Minchin is really rather quite funny isn't he ... quite the Christmas treat, and making me think of my brother sipping white wine on the beach in Australia this Christmas was quite bittersweet, as I type at you from London approaching a Christmas in Derbyshire via Nottingham, Tamworth, Birmingham, Derby and Leicester I wish I could throw another shrimp on the barbie this Christmas. Nevermind, I'll make do with an Iceland prawn party ring.

Paul Weller was great obviously, and great to hear a good set comprised of songs only two of which were over 5 years old. I think some of the older contingent would've left unhappy if he hadn't closed with a seemingly reluctant encore of 'Town Called Malice' ...

Anyhoo, I think I'm gonna be on an FM radio Christmas extra special on Friday night ... I'll let you know more as soon as I know.

Peace & Love, scroll down for a picture of me trying to stare into your soul,

Stand-Up and Rock ... Comedy and the Weller ...

Morning folks,

Went to see some comedy last night, and tickled I was indeed. The Beta Males hosted a night of sketch comedy up in North London, the headline act was the highly humorous Max & Ivan ... no doubt all involved will be making huge amounts of money for making us laugh on the BBC and Channel 4 very soon.

Tonight I'll be seeing an interesting selection of acts at the Hammersmith Apollo charity event for Crisis, Stand-Up & Rock. Paul Weller, Graham Coxon, Jo Brand, Tim Minchin and Ross Noble ... I hope to laugh, yet again, and boogie in equal measure ...

Here's a couple of images of me laughing this morning ...

I'll probably let you know if it's any good or not ...

ReggiiMental's Mental YouTube playlist ...

They've only done gone and done it ain't they?! The kind folks at YouTube have sequenced their algorhythms to collect a set of Jimmy B-Boy's best bits on their video streaming website, just as they had for little old me earlier in the year.

You can catch me on a few of those videos, The Deepest Cellar sessions and The Fire Pit are included plus Reggii's old days with Gnostix and the Shady Rezidents ... hope you like their picks, and make sure you watch once or twice ...

Love, Love and I Love You All !

Premier League XIs / elevens / 11s (continued) (cont.) post-millennium ...

A continuation now of my seemingly popular football blogging ... the discussion / debate rages on the best Premier League side since its inception in 1992 (when Sky "invented football" according to the dirty Leeds fan) ... we turn our attention to a hand picked selection of players that you might pick to beat any other eleven ... think on ...

Did anyone watch any of them FA YouTube videos were current and former players picked their best all-time 5-a-side team ... horrendous, I can't believe the FA would publish them ... was it purely to prove how thick footballers really are??? Ashley Young, for example, picked a team of 6 players (for a 5-a-side team), all current England players (of all-time Ashley, seriously?) and included himself (again, seriously?) ... anyway, we thought we'd have a crack at picking our top 11 players that have graced the English Premier League since the Millennium Bug didn't destroy us all ...

So, without any Sheffield Wednesday players to distract me, or bias my selection (oh that will be to come, think on) ... I picked my team from the cream of the crop and thought they were quite good, what do you think? Who would you pick?? Who would you drop???

GK - Edwin Van Der Sar
RB - Gary Neville
LB - Ashley Cole
CB - Jaap Stam
CB - Roberto Carvalho
DM - Michael Essien
AM - Frank Lampard / Steve Gerrard
RW - Christiano Ronaldo
LW - Thierry Henry
SS - Wayne Rooney
CF - Didier Drogba

As you can see, I haven't ventured too far away from the big 4, not at all in fact, which players from outside the top 4 would make it into your first eleven?? JJ Okocha?

Also, if pushed I would go for Frank Lampard in the Lampard / Gerrard debate but I copped out and stuck them both in there ... who would you pick?

And you can still vote on your best Premiership XI here ... Mourinho's Chelsea winning so far ...

Best all-time Premiership side ???
 Manchester United treble winners
 Arsenal Invincibles
 Mourinho's Chelsea

Back in The Deepest Cellar with ReggiiMental ...

Morning folks,

Yesterday was a great stretch of time catching up with my old partner in crime and demo-ing some new tunes (you'll hear them in good time) ... but as we grew nostalgic and wistful for what was only a year or so ago we thought we'd do a special little acoustic version of a Deepest Cellar favourite ... and here I've uploaded it at a gift for you, the performance isn't the best and ReggiiMental aka. Mr. Jimmy B-Boy sounds like he's skulking round outside the vocal booth but it's a five minute slice of our time just for you ... enjoy!

The new demos sound great - guitar solo alert! - and I'm very much looking forward to getting a full band on them ... and what's that, did someone say an accordion ???

A Little Musical Update ... plus bonus Christmas Dinner blog ...

Even though my recent football blogs have proved to be my most popular ever ... even more so than the picture of me and my mate Will Young and the week I passed my driving test (it pleases me no end that you're so interested and supportive!) ... I thought I'd return today to the reason I presume you're all here in the first place, and certainly why I set up this blog in the first place: to inform and update you with my musical adventures ... I've been quite busy of late in my secret identity, getting things done and certain things written ... so, new paragraph ...

I've written four new songs this week. The first of which is quite possibly one of the worst things I've ever written and sang out loud, although only to myself, called 'A Domino Effect', it actually had the rhyme of "moon" and "June" ... terrible, you'll never hear it ... but the other three are quite a different story entirely ... three of my favourite songs I've ever written, even though perhaps you always feel that way when you first write them, I really feel like they're some of the best things I've ever written and sang aloud, and this time to people who agree. Of late I have been listening to a lot of Sam Cook (obviously!), Juliette Gréco and Serge Gainsbourg, and watching a lot of soppy films but I won't go into what they are (I might reveal all of my real influences one day!) ... you will hear them, eventually. I am heading to my mate ReggiiMental's basement studio (The Deepest Cellar) tomorrow to lay down some acoustic demos, and to catch up and that, it's been a while.

A quick update on 'Living with a Dirty Leeds Fan' ... we had a Christmas dinner tonight which was lovely, everyone contributing, plenty of sprouts, potatoes, cabbage and of course a big cooked bird plus some pigs in blankets and a gammon shank ... because one load of meat is just not enough, and even though I've flirted with it, I'm not sure vegetarianism could be a serious consideration within my current lifestyle ... I already don't drink, and people think that's eccentric enough ... ... furthermore to the tale, his date went well, she did indeed enjoy here milkshake, laugh at his terrible jokes and play with her hair ! That boy talks some serious Phil Babb-le, and can't help but use awful football puns ...

We even had Christmas crackers complete with Christmas hats ...

Bye for now,
Matt H x

Well, what an interesting night of Champions League football ... the Champagne corks pop around London and at the Channel 5 offices as the Europa League just got a heck of a lot more interesting ...

With the fantastic response I had yesterday I've decided to put the options in a nice little box for you to pick your first choice, discuss amongst yourself if you have any reservations or reasons why you've opted for your final choice over another that nearly made it ... as for the questions I have come across and received ... this is a question of starting elevens, man to man on a rainy day in South Yorkshire ... which team would beat the other three on any given day at Hillsborough ???

Best all-time Premiership side ???
 Manchester United treble winners

Stay Tuned ...

Premier League XIs / 11s / elevens ...

A slight diversion in the trail of my blogs of late ... had a raging debate earlier with a flatmate (resisting the urge to use the phrase "mass debate" in this blog terribly so) about football players and who would go in your choice starting elevens ... I'll probably split up the categories over a number of blogs in the hope that it may start a further online debate ... one might say a lovely viral mass debate ... oops! Ask your facebook friends and post on Twitter ... feed me back some info ... 'tis all I want for Christmas ...

So, the topic that brought about the conversation ... we first discussed the best Premier League XI ... the choices were ... Machester United's treble winning side of 1999 ... Arsenal's unbeatable invincibles ... Chelsea under Mourinho ... or the current crop of chaps turning out for Manchester City ...

Hint, Hint - my choice ^^^ ...

Now, of course we may be a little premature with the current Manchester City team (I didn't pick the options, it was all the dirty Leeds that I share a kitchen and a bathroom with!) but just go with it and see who you reckon ... and it's a different age what with more regular squad rotation etc. ... surely no-one believes David May would get into City's current second XI ... so think of it as on the day, storngest side, first XI, no injuries, fully fit and ready for war ... and seeing as it's an English thing we'll say it's to be played on a rainy day in South Yorkshire ... Hillsborough perhaps ... fetch the canoe !

Manchester United's treble winners
Arsenal Invincibles
Mourinho's Chelsea
Manchester City's current team

Think on and I'll be back with more ...

Matt Henshaw Live @ the 100 Club (images) ...

As promised, here's an image / picture / visual photographic illustration of me playing at the 100 Club at the Christmas Mod Ball for Wapping Wharf with Geno Washington, Melanie Dayna and the Small Fakers ... what a jolly pleasant evening it was too ...

Lovely houndstooth pants right there ... and what a crescent moon face ... and if you could see the spot shining on the side of my nose like a star you could suggest it signals my conversion to Islam (and around Christmas time, what scandal!) ...

And here's Geno Wahsington's sax duo ... Little & Large ... fabulous !

More to come ? We'll see ... ta-ta for now ...

Monday 5 December 2011

The Xmas Mod Ball with Geno Washington ...

What a splendid evening, I got up and did my thing, but enough about me ...

Geno! Geno! Geno! What a performer, coming on looking like Othello, aged 68, quoting Shakespeare and singing like a proper bona-fide soul brother #1 ! His set was like a soul compilation CD I made back in the day - before mp3 players, but after cassettes - classic after classic and he didn't come up for air, just down with the soul and funk and more 'tween song witticism than any performer I've seen ...

Love to the Small Fakers and Melanie Dayna and John Hellier and all who enjoyed also ...

So, boxed ticked, played the legendary 100 Club ... seen the equally as legendary Geno Washington and shook his hand ... sorry, no pics ... they may follow, keep it locked on MattHenshaw11 - the blog that's 11 times as good as any other, or maybe you should read it eleven time-a-day to digest it properly because it's so erudite and literate - or maybe someday I'll tell you the true story of the number 11 ... I'll save that for a particularly slow news day ...

I needs to get me one of them smart phones dun'I ...

PEACE and Merry Chrimbo all the same ! x

Thursday 1 December 2011

On the first day of Chri... December ...

I guess it's a warm welcome to the festive season for y'all, even though it feels like it's been approaching Christmas from the moment the Halloween costumes went away, or Guy Fawkes said "ta ra" from the top of the bonfire (effigies talk like Cilla Black you know?!) ...

Eagle eyed and eared Matt Henshaw followers from yester-year will know that I usually get pretty diary happy over the Christmas season ... tales of Psammead and the snakes and gifts for all and sometimes recipes - yes, it's been known - so we'll just have to wait and see how much I can offer you in the year of our Lord 2011 ...

This is me this afternoon working on my George Harrison 1968 look ...

I hope to see a few of you at the 100 Club this weekend for my little guest slot with Geno Washington ... should be a heck of a lot of festive fun !

Guesting at the Christmas Mod Ball with Geno Washington ...

In case you didn't gather from my previous cryptic blog ... I'll be getting up for a number or two with Melanie Dayna before the great man himself Geno Washington and the Small Fakers take to the stage of the world famous 100 Club on Oxford Street, London Town.

I'll be doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that that ... singing songs and looking smart ... one hopes !

Sorry for the lack of updates through Mo-vember (abandoned about 8 or 9 days in by the way!), but Matthew Henshaw, my alter-ego, has been busy with thems and theres ... y'know how it goes ... I hope everyone had a grand Halloween anyhow and burnt some wood on bonfire night ... oh how I do enjoy a good fire ...

Setlist from Tamworth ...

Well that was an all day marathon in Tamworth Town at the last minute. Good day though. Caught up with some old friends and sent thoughts to some who couldn't be with us. And ReggiiMental performed four sets. Nice one to all involved and all the goodness done for charity ...

My set was, short and sweet and an acoustic tickle of the ear that echo down the ages in T Town ... so I'm told anyways ...

It Ain't Easy
Me & You
The World's Gone Mad
Can't Hold Back
Bonne Nuit Madame / Stand By the Window

So, more new bits and some sing-a-longs ... yes I'm pleased to say the beautiful people of Tamworth were singing along. Get in !

And here's a blurry image, but 'tis me ... in the red pea-coat (it was so bloomin' cold I kept it on all day) ...

Playing in Tamworth tonight ...

Just got off the blower to Jimmy B-Boy aka. ReggiiMental ... apparently I've been booked to play a show for months in Tamworth town for the charitable events and affairs of OxJam ... so I'd suppose I'd better make my way over there and kick out some jams in the style of the MC5, or not ...

I'll let you know how it goes ... but, for now here's the last time myself and Regii hung out in Tamworth picking up loose women ...

And the time before that, but unfortunately Joey G-Zus won't be there this time ...

My driving (mis)adventures ...

Remember these previous blogs ... I passed my driving test at the start of the month ... and I got a parking fine (before I'd even passed my test) ...

Well, I been posted up on my fabulous driving instructor's website ... thanks for taking a snap Richard, looking positively rock'n'roll as usual for having passed my driving test on a Monday lunchtime ... and folks, if you're in the East Midlands and you need quality driving instruction and someone who will help you into the first time passers club ... scroll down for me, I'm at the bottom ...

And yes, finally, I received message from Leicester City Council ... the fine has been cancelled and we can all rejoice and return to our carefree lifestyle ... (although LCC did contradict themselves in the letter that said when loading and unloading you should park ON the kerb, and then later in the letter it says leave the pavement clear so as to not obstruct wheelchairs and prams, but we all know it's illegal to park on kerbs anyways, right?)

Watch this !

That's The Way God Planned It,
see you later x

'My Week' by Matt Henshaw (2/10/11-8/10/11)

Passed my driving test !

Saw Sheffield Wednesday lurch up the second in League 1 (I still think that makes it sound half OK, like "league one" means the top division)

Wished my brother a happy birthday on the other side of the world
(he's in Bangkok and all he wants is a nice cup of tea ... but apparently his Mrs. was going to get him a lady boy for his birthday!)

Played poker with the boys ... won ... obviously ... the prize? Dinner bought for on the following night as we went out and watch England draw in spectacular style in a European Qualifier against Montenegro ... (for my North American readers - I know you're out there - a draw is when both teams have the same number of goals/points at the end of a game, and we consider this OK) ...

Today ... did a couple of talks at the University of Leicester about how going to University after you're twenty one is a good idea ie. as a mature student ie. an old codger (I am considered old and mature in certain facets of society ... as my mate Mark said "when I first met you and you was wearing a dressing gown, slippers and sipping a cup of tea I thought you was going to be posh ... but it turns out you're just a little old man" ... the best review I've ever had!!!)

NOW?! Hibernation, reading, Ealing Comedies ... and my next two musical projects are taking shape nicely.

Sit tight for a Ringo Starr style headshot et cheesy grin... peace and love, Peace & Love ...

Happy Birthday Brother ... I can (legally) drive !

Psychedelic Salutations to you all,

October is well under way now ... usually the sun cream is tucked away in the cupboard now with a blanket and it's feet in some hot water, but not in 2011, oh no! I have sweat today more than I did throughout the entirety of July and August ... thanks for asking ... anyway, it's my brother's birthday !

He's in Thailand ... I am not ... but I am celebrating in my own way. It is three years since I had a drink (of alcohol, of course, not juice ... and I only mention it so it would be something to clap and cheer me for, even if you don't like me or my music, it's good for my self-esteem, although I don't know why people do that ... I knew a kid at school who ate crayons and sucked the ink out of ball point pens, I'll be he hasn't done that for twenty years but I wonder if he gets a pat on the back?) ... and, also, anyway, the point is, I passed my practical driving test today ... with flying colours ... again, thanks for asking ...

Matt Henshaw - 1
Noel Gallagher - 0

... and special mention and apologies to my best bud, former Censored drummer Chris Goring, for all those years he spent on the road a the designated driver with me in the passenger or in the back, usually ginned off my face being a general nuisance. I love you pal, and good to finally join you in the first time passers club ...

(on the previous blog's previously incurred parking fine, Leicester Council got in touch today and told me that the charge has been frozen ... I will be notified of any further developments ... which I will pass on to you of course as my loyal adoring(?) cyber world wide web fans ... I love you all too, and hope you appreciate me taking time out from my busy(?!) schedule to inform of my daily life ... (music to come ... I am aware that I have gone quiet on that front in the blog-o-sphere ... it's because I want to get everything right before I unleash anything on the unsuspecting world, and, of course I have minor inconveniences on the agenda such as parking penalty charge notices, driving tests and wishing siblings on the other side of the world a "happy birthday" ... bear with me) ...

Bit of a rant this one isn't it ... "nice blogging!" I hear you cry ... if you like your Matt Henshaw rants to be contained to 140 characters or less then follow me on Twitter ... but beware of much football related ranting ... "and it's oh Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Wendesday FC, are by far the greatest team the world have ever seen" ...

White Rabbits and Happy October Day ...

Well, the heat is exhausting. Pleasurable, but what is it doing here in Britain in October ?

And the football results from today are very pleasing indeed ... (me pictured below looking cool in Suited Magazine and feeling good about Sheffield Wednesday getting promoted this season ... fingers are crossed) ...

Matt Henshaw and his little BBC page!

Following the official recognition from YouTube it was an extra special pleasure when Jimmy B-Boy aka. ReggiiMental got in touch with me and told me that he'd found an official Matt Henshaw BBC page ! Surfing the web these things pop up from time to time and it is very nice ... there's not much on there though, maybe I should pull my finger out and start creating some music that will sell by the bucket load ... they've got the old Censored tribe on there too. I used to be a member don't you know ... cool runnings ...

Hop on on over to my official website and sign up for the mailing list to hear about future developments and be treated to a selection of acoustic session videos, including one over at the BBC ...

The East Midlands & above ...

So, you will have no doubt (should have) read from the previous blog that I've been driving around and about in Leicester, well, I've continued up and carried on from there in the last week or so hitting some of my old haunts, seeing old friends and singing the occasional tune along the way. Sheffield (home of the mighty Owls!), Nottingham (former home of Censored, remember them?), Derby (home of ReggiiMental aka Jimmy B-Boy and The Deepest Cellar) and Eastwood (birthplace of DH Lawrence) have all been graced by my presence amongst other nooks of LE, DE, NG and South Yorkshire ... I hope those towns and cities of bricks and mortar enjoyed my visits as much as I did ...

... had to check out this young talent whilst visiting home ... maybe you should too ... video by the one and only Michael Holyk ...

Also, my old pal Will Jeffery is still sounding raspy and beautiful as ever ... appearing here with the ever wonderful Zoe Kirk ...

So nice of YouTube to let me know that they've put together a "Matt Henshaw Mix" playlist to accompany the side of my videos and point people in the direction of more ... it's only a matter of time before Universal Publishing gets in touch and wants to make a MattHenshawVEVO page ...

In a familiar territory it begins with Can't Hold Back and soon whisks you off on a journey through the twists and turns of "me on youtube" ... what ho, what joy ... just another step in taking the Matt Henshaw Movement international ...

Here's me this morning ...

... I think this is my surprised, confused an excitable face! Not sure?! Enjoy anyway. More progress on phase 3 ... we'll get there in the end, and if we don't, who knows where we was going anyway??

The Victoria Inn setlist ...

A very enjoyable show last night with Reggiimental, The Iron Door Club and The Young Guns. Bananas, apples, a rider and everything. And they've tidied up the Vic Inn a little bit too, pedestrianised the outside and new carpets on the inside - not much can be done about the occasional waft of a tangy aroma that weaves its way through the place I'm sure - it's been a fair while since I've been in Derby I'm sure you can tell. And very good to be there on a day when all the sheepy people were returning home from a victory at the City Ground down Brian Clough Way in Nottingham. I have no bias as a Sheffield Wednesday fan, but it's always better to in the company of shiny happy people, just ask Michael Stipe (or was he being ironic?) ... anyway, good lovin' in Derby city.

The Way It Is
The World's Gone Mad
Can't Hold Back
B-Boy Soul / The Deepest Cellar
Bonne Nuit Madame / Stand By the Window
Winter Wonderland

As you see from the short and sweet setlist there's a couple of little mash-up things (essentially making it up as we went along, but it worked really well) ... great Greenwich Village via Tamworth Beat Club type stuff. I'll have to post you my version of The Way It Is in the style of Joan Baez some day ...

Can you believe this pleases me ...

... no, neither can I ! Small things though eh?

Catch you on the flipside,
Matt H.

Down in The Deepest Cellar with ReggiiMental pre-gig ...

So, relaxing with Jimmy B-Boy in the glorious city of Derby before our show at the Victoria Inn - Derby, seemingly glorious enjoying its Indian Summer ... he's persuaded me into a full-blown MTV Unplugged style set this evening. The country-rock'n'folk stylings of Can't Hold Back in Derbyshire tonight ... I'll report back on how that goes tomorrow no doubt ...

... also, happening in the city beforehand, with all the Rams returning from Nottingham (if they're not still over there smashing it up celebrating victory!) there's Paul Weller's pal Devlin plus Alex Blood & The Diggers on the Market Square ... Derby sunshine urban capital ... who'da thunk it !

So see you later alligators ... in the meantime ... learn the words to Can't Hold Back ... I like a good sing-a-long me ...

With Love and a billion blessings,
Matt Henshaw.

The Deepest Cellar is one "bad ass jam" ...

Afternoon boys and girls,

Just thought I'd throw this quick review of The Deepest Cellar at you. Roadside Phil from over North America way has discovered The Deepest Cellar with the help of CD Baby and he think it's a "bad ass jam" ... I must admit that I do agree ... think for yourself ... watch the vid ... read the review ... and I'm sure you'd agree too ...

Matt Henshaw @ the Vic Inn, Derby this Saturday with ReggiiMental and The Iron Door Club ...

Afternoon,

Had a call from ReggiiMental, Jimmy B-Boy himself, to go and do some guest vocal bits on Saturday night in Derby at the hallowed Victoria Inn ... obligingly I'll be there singing my little heart out.

With new music on the way in the shape on solo singing and much acoustic guitar playing I'm in the process of putting together an online B-Boy Soul / The Deepest Cellar retrospective with short pieces about all the tracks, FREE downloads, links to nice bits and bobs all over the world wide web ... down in The Deepest Cellar beneath the floorboards of the fortune tellers ...

O2 Academy, Islington setlist ...

Good morning, afternoon and evening pop pickers,

Had a rate good cracking night last night playing the 15th Annual Small Faces Convention. Always a pleasure to get together and celebrate the greats and stick on a sharp suit and some Chelsea boots. Here are the songs that I played and the order in which I played them in ...

Black Coffee
My Way of Giving
The Universal
Afterglow (Of Your Love)
Donkey Rides A Penny A Glass
Tin Soldier
Every Little Bit Hurts
If You Think You're Groovy

Bravo! What a fabulous set of songs I'm sure you'd agree. Many thanks go to John Hellier of Wapping Wharf and the guest vocal talent I shared the stage with, Miss. Mel Dayna. And two other bands I would like to express my utmost profound adoration for, and express what a bloomin' great show they put on, Stone Foundation and the Small Fakers (who are now going out as SuperDuperGrass as well I might hasten to add) ...

Hasta la vista all,

MHx

PS. more updates soon, what with this pleasant sojourn down Nostalgia Way out of the way ... oh, and pictures / video to follow I am sure ...

Rehearsing for Sunday's Show ...

Good day and Good Moro squires and squirettes,

Did a bit of rehearsing yesterday with a guest vocalist who is doing a couple of tunes with me on Sunday, at Sunday's super spectacular ultra special show in commemoration of Steve Marriott et al of the Small Faces ...

Adventures on the tube, working my socks off, and here I am relaying the information to you ...

I like the sound of wistful sliding strings and melancholic falling pianos ... but don't overdo it ...

With Love,
Matt Henshaw.

The Living Bar, Brixton setlist ...

Good Monday morning to you alll,

Thought I'd drop you a quick word about Friday's show in Brixton, and thank all who came, I thought it was smashing, I hope you'll agree and you enjoyed my tunes. I played a selection of new songs including I've Had Tears, It Ain't Easy and Goodnight My Lady, then had Joey G-Zus and ReggiiMental with me on The World's Gone Mad ...

The whole thing was filmed for Roots Manuva's Banana Klan TV so I'm sure there'll be a video I can post here at some point, keep checking back, keep your eyes peeled and stay cool brothers and sisters.

And this is me this morning ... just to prove I am still alive after a weekend of party and serial killing (my new favourite hobby, and a great source of inspiration for songwriting, you wouldn't believe!!) ...

Matt Henshaw interview in Suited Magazine (Link) ...

Here is an interview where I talk about me a lot ... terrible I know ... but if you're reading my blog chances are you like knowing what I'm up to so I hope you enjoy the information I have to relay ...

If you'd like to contact me, by the way, the best way to do it is on Twitter, Last.fm or by carrier pigeon ... I don't use facebook ... the cool kids and I think it's bland and dated paedophiles paradise ... I mean, I like blue and white, but only on the football shirts, and I would never endorse paedophilia ... NEVER !

Anyone watching Show Me The Funny on ITV ?  (first thing on ITV worth watching in ages, and it's still not even that good, just a touch more interesting than people that think they can sing, it's people that think they're funny, for a change ... much less cruel you see, we're invited to laugh with them rather than at them ... someone tell Cowell and Fuller I think they're show format is cruel, go on I dare you!) ... it's the semi-final and live final this week, I truly hope to be tickled ... alas, if I am not I shall boycott their advertisers ... no more Mecca Bingo for me ...

Matt Henshaw graces the cover of Suited Mag ...

Go and have a look at Matt Henshaw (me!) on the cover of Suited Magazine if you don't believe me ... ... ... and if you do believe me and you're not that bothered about seeing the hideous sight of me then click here to go and have a look at a video for one of my tunes that doesn't have me in it, but it does have some very attractive scantily clad women, and a message, so pay attention ... either way I love you all ...

The photograph was taken by Jacqueline Bednall and it is a nice one ... hopefully I'll get some new pictures for you to look at soon ... maybe some prancing around the studio pretending to work hard ... foppish clothes and a dandy-ish manner are the order of the day ...

Enjoy looking and/or watching ... and if you decide to do neither and click one of the adverts on this page because you oh so desperately need to join GroupOn or stock up on penis enlargement products then that's cool with me, it'll earn me nought point nought zero of a pence ... tres fantastique simplement ...

Optimism Above All,
Matt H.

Diary: The Day Yesterday, The Happening ...

Just to keep you gorgeous cyber wallflowers up to date with the proceedings of la Matt Henshaw carrière solo de musique as the enfants français are saying ... I met with Tristan last night, we talked music, songs, tunes and melodies ... it only descended into talking about the mighty Owls, Pompey and the Magpies on a couple of occasions ...

(for anyone not Canadien style multilingual or football-literate, it is the French kids that are talking about my music and Tristan and I discussed the grim prospects of Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Notts County)

So, what did we discuss?  Well, I won't go into detail, but, I aim to put down seven songs through Spetember ... you may not have heard any of them before, unless you've had the pleasure and the privilege of seeing me live with an acoustic guitar in recent times, which has been sparing to say the least ... anyhoo, this will be my main source of information for you sexy cyber data heads, so, unless anyone out there wants to buy me a new smart phone or some kind of audio visual recording device you won't hear any new bits from the studio but I will try and articulate the sounds through my rich textual vocabulary and communicate my thoughts and feelings through this 'ere web log, or blog for short, if you're down with that ...

I can tell you how I look in a morning though, here I am in all my "first-thing-ie-sometime-between-8am-and-9am-flowery-shirt-in-bed-glory-no-morning-glory-though-that-would-be-rude" ...

Currently listening to Noel Gallagher, Adele and James Morrison ... really only to hear how people who are solo acts cope ... I have listened to a tiny bit of The Who also this morning just to feel warm and safe ...

Stay Cool, Play The Game & Play It Safe,

PS. download my songs MattHenshaw.com, I'd love to be able to buy people gifts this Christmas (turning a new leaf am I?)

Diary: The Day Today, Pre-Production ...

Today is Thursday 18th August and it's a very grey day of the summer in South London, one hopes with the optimism of a field mouse that it's a bit brighter once I get up North London ... today I'll be meeting up with Mr. Tristan Ivemy to discuss some production, recording studio, instrument and arrangement type things ... it's going to be very nice ... the kids and the professors are calling it "pre-production" ...

That is, of course, I leave after I wait in for a new fridge to be delivered ... the oh so specific delivery times don't give me much to go by in terms of the time of its arrival.

Here's me and my thick rugged handsome jaw this morning ...

#NowPlaying (in a twitter-esque type display of my affection for social media) Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra records from the 1940s ... I love them old bastards !

Bonne Nuit Madames et monsieurs,
Matt Henshaw .
