A long tie ago, around 2007/2008 I wrote a blog under my former guise of Matt from Censored I wrote a blog called 'Matt Censord Recommends ...' I wrote about a few people and bands that now are bordering on household names, Dog Is Dead, Jake Bugg and The Swiines, Twisted Wheel and George Moran, formerly of The Crooks, now guitarist for Miles Kane, and a little known Nottingham band called The Jonny Dodds, they you were young sloppy, naive and had a knack for falling over more so than The Cribs or The Vines ...
Well, now after seeing them last night at The Golden Fleece with Motormouf they're older, wiser, a lot slicker, and they're calling themselves Three Girl Rhumba, and make an excellent noise !
They still sound a little like The Cribs but they've clearly lived a little and seen a lot more of the country, delved into music a bit further than the mid-noughties indie dirge, and walked a path through The Talking Heads, Wire, classic songwriting, and to my delight, taken in a little blues, soul and gospel music. And of any straight up indie indie band, they're the first I've seen in a long time that instantly marked themselves out as heading for the mainstage of any festival near you very soon.
So pleased to see the lads again, and it was a real blast from the past, from when they played at my old band's Club SOS nights in Nottingham, it made me think I need to put on a show at Rock City, maybe even Nottingham Arena if we make the right kind of waves, Three Girl Rhumba, Matt Henshaw and Dog Is Dead, a real Nottingham ball, and quite the shindig, I'm sure you'd buy a ticket, right?
Catch them live now whilst the cost of a show is somewhere between Free and a fiver and you won't be disappointed !
They've done a free EP for Record Store Day this year, and it's mega, songs like Lemon Cush you'll have in your head from one day to the next ...

MERRY ROCKIN' CHRISTMAS - In The Presence Of The Lord - Matt Henshaw
Here's a little song I wrote ...
Merry Christmas !
Matt Henshaw 'In The Presence Of The Lord'
Recorded, Produced, Mixed & Mastered by Tristan Ivemy.
Recorded at Miloco Islington, Metropolis and Battery Studios, London, England, United Kingdom.
Vocals, Backing Vocals, Rhythm Guitar & Lead Guitar by Matt Henshaw.
Backing Vocals by Christopher Owen.
Bass & Backing Vocals by Nathan Clarke.
Drums, Percussion & Backing Vocals by Chris Goring.
Horn Arrangements, Percussion & Backing Vocals by Tristan Ivemy.
Well, he don't want to stay here
Not another day here
Because just like me he can't stand the weather
We all know that planet earth is blue
And we all know that love is true
If only it could last forever
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
You want to go out and kiss the son
From the moment your life had begun
But first my children you must learn to kiss the sky
From the moment you walk through the door
It's the moment you had to be sure
That things they ain't never going to get any better
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
Om Om Om
In the passing of time
Well I've looked and I've but I still couldn't
Someone quite like you
Somebody who would die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need

Satsuma Elephants @ Pepper Rocks, Nottingham setlist ...
OK, so this is the last of the setlist blogs for a while ... no gigs for a bit, certainly no Satsuma Elephants 'till Y-Not Festival (we're on on Saturday afternoon by the way) unless something special comes up ... in the mean time we'll be working away at some new songs, beefing up the setlist and hitting the studio to demo some of them proper !
So, Pepper Rocks, Nottingham. Tuesday 18th June, remember the date, the first Satsuma Elephants show in their hometown. And what a show. Certainly the best dressed crowd the Elephants have played for so far. Especially Chief Satsuma in her home made Satsuma Elephants t-shirt ... and very snazzy indeed it looked too ! You can read her thoughts here ... SatsumaElefans.blogspot.co.uk
So what did we play ...

(I Went On) Holiday
Creep Into the Night
Let Everything Go featuring ReggiiMental AKA. Jimmy B-Boy
A Hard Road of Hope
Always in the Way
I Didn't Know What Day It Was
Thanks to everyone who came down ... photographers doing a spectacular job, can't wait to see some pics and my man JC on the video cameras, making the Satsuma Elephants documentary ... the first clip from which can be found on YouTube, roughly edited, before you video editing impressarios hit me with your negative feedback ! YouTube.com/user/SatsumaElephants
And if you didn't know by now there's a brand new website up and running ... SatsumaElephants.com

All My Best & All My Apologies ...
Sorry I haven't blogged properly in so long ... I thought I'd blog now though as I've just gotten round to replying to couple of blog comments on this 'ere blog dating way back to the end of May ... I feel terrible but I just thought I'd reblog them here as you can see they're from two of the best Matt Henshaw (Censored) fans that there ever was, and to prove that I'm still alive ...
Here's the original blog post and the comments below ... have a read ... or have a read below if you're too lazy to click and don't mind having no stylish text to read, just the plain old matthenshaw11.blogspot.co.uk blog entry typeface ...

Well done dear boy. As a small tribute, I thought I'd mention an old tune of yours on my blog - because it still make me want to pogo round the living room every time I hear it. I'm sure you know which one it is........

Thanks folks!
Two of my most loyal supporters right there I'm sure.
Actually graduated today, so that's officially that with the University of Leicester.
Johnny, Johnny Boy, you're such a jolly boy !
I might have been sure it would have been that one Rob, I haven't heard it for so long, and the video I had all but forgotten about! Nice One !
Good memories ... plenty more where that came from, stay tuned, and hopefully I'll have my new website up and running this summer, packed full of memories, and new stuff of course, and just general all round goodness ...
Apologies to you both, and anyone else who bothers to read the comments bits on my blog (you're my favourite people in the world, by the way!) I've been busy with the arbitrary and mundane of life of late ... well, for most people it would be mundane, but when you're Matt Henshaw you can find excitement on every turn! So, I'm having a good one, and I hope you are too ...
Speak Soon!

Happy Birthday Brother ... I can (legally) drive !
Psychedelic Salutations to you all,
October is well under way now ... usually the sun cream is tucked away in the cupboard now with a blanket and it's feet in some hot water, but not in 2011, oh no! I have sweat today more than I did throughout the entirety of July and August ... thanks for asking ... anyway, it's my brother's birthday !
He's in Thailand ... I am not ... but I am celebrating in my own way. It is three years since I had a drink (of alcohol, of course, not juice ... and I only mention it so it would be something to clap and cheer me for, even if you don't like me or my music, it's good for my self-esteem, although I don't know why people do that ... I knew a kid at school who ate crayons and sucked the ink out of ball point pens, I'll be he hasn't done that for twenty years but I wonder if he gets a pat on the back?) ... and, also, anyway, the point is, I passed my practical driving test today ... with flying colours ... again, thanks for asking ...
Matt Henshaw - 1
Noel Gallagher - 0
... and special mention and apologies to my best bud, former Censored drummer Chris Goring, for all those years he spent on the road a the designated driver with me in the passenger or in the back, usually ginned off my face being a general nuisance. I love you pal, and good to finally join you in the first time passers club ...
(on the previous blog's previously incurred parking fine, Leicester Council got in touch today and told me that the charge has been frozen ... I will be notified of any further developments ... which I will pass on to you of course as my loyal adoring(?) cyber world wide web fans ... I love you all too, and hope you appreciate me taking time out from my busy(?!) schedule to inform of my daily life ... (music to come ... I am aware that I have gone quiet on that front in the blog-o-sphere ... it's because I want to get everything right before I unleash anything on the unsuspecting world, and, of course I have minor inconveniences on the agenda such as parking penalty charge notices, driving tests and wishing siblings on the other side of the world a "happy birthday" ... bear with me) ...
Bit of a rant this one isn't it ... "nice blogging!" I hear you cry ... if you like your Matt Henshaw rants to be contained to 140 characters or less then follow me on Twitter ... but beware of much football related ranting ... "and it's oh Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Wendesday FC, are by far the greatest team the world have ever seen" ...
