HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015 !!

Happy New Year peoples one and all ... 2014 was one hell of a ride ! This is me featuring in the Summer 2014 Linked In promotional campaign, and it's true, now more than ever. I feel "match-fit" and hardened by the road, and boy, have I seen some road !? I'm all ready and geared up for hitting the continent and I hope you'll be keen to follow my travels.
Here's a video that's now a year old, very proud of it I am, and it started last year off very nicely indeed, you might have to hold your horses for new music this year, but don't worry, it's on it's way !! Peace, Love & Tea, MHx

Matt Henshaw Sings ... 'The Mighty Quinn' by Manfred Mann and Bob Dylan & The Band
I went to Portugal at the start of this month, and it was the longest I've gone for a long while without singing, apart from a couple of rounds on karaoke, but best not to talk about that really, so I thought driving up to my first show of the month I ought to try and warm up my voice with the iPod going round in the car, I skipped a few to find one that I could sing along to and belt it out, apparently I got really excited when Quinn The Eskimo came along, so the wife decided to start doing some cheeky filming ...
So, I sang a little and I smiled a little and I laughed alot. Unfortunately for everyone, I'm sure, it wasn't so much the prospect of singing along that got me excited, but all the useless/useful knowledge and trivia I have about the song, Quinn The Eskimo, Nicholas Ray, Manfred Mann, Bob Dylan and The Band ... I didn't really wreal much off here, but anyone who has ever sat in my passenger seat would be able to tell you, I love to give little bits of poptastic trivia out about whatever comes on my iPod.
I'll leave you with a few interesting pictures ... please discuss ...

Matt Henshaw Recommends ... Mia & The Moon

So, this week I went to a show in Leicester, I wasn't supposed to, I was supposed to be in Wales, but the stars aligned and due to the oncoming dawning of the Age of Aquarius and the inordinate amount weather we've been having I've been in the city all week. Before I get into recommending a couple more of my favourite East Midlands Girls I'm going to give a very very very special mention to the fantastic and wonderful Chris Conway ... Google Him, Do It Now !
Chris was one of the first musicians I met when I moved to the city, and if I'm honest, even from week one of getting out and playing the guitar again, I met Chris that very first week, and he's one of the finest musicians I've ever met before and since, a true gentleman and a real character. And his music makes me laugh, cry and discombobulate in equal measure ...
... so, why am I banging on about Chris Conway? Well, it was he and thee Mia & The Moon whom it was I went to see this week. The night was entitled 'Songs of Wonder', and in wonderment I sat on my bean bag, by the incense, sipping on my coffee - now I know what you're thinking, but they didn't have any milk ... and Black Coffee is always better than Black Tea ...
Both acts are fantastic and I hope that I'll see, play with, record with, write with Chris Conway sometime soon ! And Mia & The Moon are indeed celestial beings. Mary-Anne and Laura, as they are know to their friends, are sisters and carry that all encompassing yin and yang that is needed to bring the light and dark into every performance.
I won't waste any more of your time with superlatives and sycophancy so I'll let the music do the talking ... but I do find it quite serendipitous that in one sister I've found someone I feel I can write some great soul songs with and add a bit of female harmony to the Matt Henshaw Rhythm'n'Gospel Cavalcade and in the other sister I've found someone I can talk about the stars and space with in a completely unscientific manner, yeah, we're really out there ... Man !!
Spread The Love indeed ! MHx

Matt Henshaw Recommends ... Esther Van Leuven
Esther, I met mid-way through 2013 when we shared a bill at The Bodega Social Club in Nottingham and we've met a few times since - me, in my infinite bumblingness forgot her name on the first couple of occasions, yeah, that's right, two whole times - but I've never forgotten her face or her voice. And it was pleasure to share the stage with her for a second time last night at Pepper Rocks. My word, what a star!
Demure and continental, Esther packs a little folk, soul, Balkan and a real range and timbre into her voice. She reminds me of a true starlet, that doesn't realise the profundity of her essence, in a room or on stage, carrying herself as she does like a Joan Baez or Melanie type girl with dashing of Sandie Shaw and Mary Hopkins for pop clarity.
I know you might be thinking they're not particularly au fait points of reference or, Matt Henshaw seeing the world through his 60s tinted spectacles, but I'd be hard pushed to find anyone of the current crop who has the adorable grace of our Esther and the understated charm with which she carries herself, this one's not pushing to be a star, the world is just waiting for her to become one ... listen for yourselves ...
And here's me sharing a little Love and a little Soul ...

Well, he don't want to stay here
Not another day here
Because just like me he can't stand the weather
We all know that planet earth is blue
And we all know that love is true
If only it could last forever
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
You want to go out and kiss the son
From the moment your life had begun
But first my children you must learn to kiss the sky
From the moment you walk through the door
It's the moment you had to be sure
That things they ain't never going to get any better
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
Om Om Om
In the passing of time
Well I've looked and I've but I still couldn't
Someone quite like you
Somebody who would die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
You would die for love
You would die die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
You'd die for love

The Actress & Bishop setlists ...
Here's the songs I played at the Actress & Bishop in Birmingham last Wednesday 6th June. We were booked in with MuthaFunk and ReggiiMental to play upstairs at our soon to be regular club night The Funk Realm, and then surprisingly downstairs after hours was an open mic night run by none other than Andy Bennett of Ocean Colour Scene, so we did the gig upstairs and then I hung around until 3am jamming with Brimingham's finest.
Upstairs @ the Actress & Bishop, Birmingham ...
What's Going On
The Funky Chicken
Think Twice
Gimme Some More
Coming Around
Nitty Gritty
It's Gettin' Late
Can't Hold Back
And downstairs at the open mic acoustically, accompanied by Lukasz of MuthaFunk on saxophone ...
It Ain't Easy
Always In The Way
Donkey Rides, A Penny A Glass
707
Not In Nottingham
Your Eyes Are Made Of Gold
How jolly pleasant and spiffing it all was. Plenty of Birmingham/Nottingham "banter" and good times had by all.
Here's me playing 'Let Everything Go' acoustically, a new addition to the Satsuma Elephants set ... a sing-a-long ... learn the words !!!

MattHenshaw.com ReDesign
If you've been flicking around the world wide web in search of Matt Henshaw produce you might have noticed that my social networks have had something of a design overhaul. Overhauled they have been indeed. MattHenshaw.com is now looking a little easier on the eyes. Nice clean, white and beautifully adorned by my face and that of Mr. ReggiiMental's, in the lead up to our album release on May 1st the site will grow organically and I'll be adding more and more content to there. Music, videos, images, blogs, feeds, whatever you need to make you surfing experience that little bit more exciting; as if a whole internet full of all the world's cyber information isn't enough already !
Stay tuned as shortly I'll be giving you live dates, album artwork if you haven't seen it already, tracklisting and special information only though of you plugged into the blogosphere are able to access. Hopefully your appetite is moistened and whetted and you're looking forward to the summer of 2013 as much as I am ... and with a new B-Boy Soul soundtrack to boot !
