Hello Germany ! Hallo Deutschland !!

Good Evening Brothers & Sisters,

I've arrived in Germany after 15 hours travel Leiceester to Dover, across the channel to Dunkirk, through France, Belgium and the Netherlands, a quick stop for a tinkle in Duisberg, and 70 cents for the pleasure, then a quick nap at the ausfahrt for Münsterland services and onto Bremen.

First show in Zeven tomorrow night, but I'll save that for then, tonight I have upheld my values as a true Englishman, I found some milch, as in milk, as soon as I could, located a kettle, made a brew and now I'm sat watching Liverpool try and put one over on Man United, can't believe these two have never met in Europe, and let's honest, they're not exactly at the height of their powers ... oh well !

And Dortmund showed Spurs a thing or two about how to host a European affair, fingers crossed I get to see some football whilst I'm out here, looking forward to the night England are out here in Berlin and I'm entertaining the good people at the Big Buttinsky in Osnabruck.

Anyway, back to the tea, and I think I've packed some biscuits somewhere ...

If you like your pop music catchy and classy then look no further than the girls and boy that make up Abandon Her.

Abby, Olivia, Sarah and Giles weave delicious harmonies over superb melodies, and it's just pure songwriting. The kind of purest songwriting I love, and take to heart when I do all the travelling on the road that I do.

When you hear a song in June 2014 and it's still knocking around in your head on the other side of the continent in January 2015 that's "mission accomplished" as far as I'm concerned.

Songs like 'Witches Islands', 'Right Back to Your Door' and new songs like 'Lilac' are real "humdingers", that's an appropriate use of that kind of terminology, right ?

Matt Henshaw Recommends ... Amii Dawes

I Love Amii Dawes. Quite simply one of the best songwriters I've had the pleasure of playing with in this last year of touring.

In fact, the only person I've played with that has written a song that I genuinely wish I'd written, or feel like it is a song I should have written, but someone else got there first !!

'Tiny Little English Town' is about her native Northampton could be about any little town, village or small city in England. The imagery, the poetry, the melody is magnificent. When I first heard her sing the couplet "this Tiny Little English Town, where even in our dreams we're wearing hand-me-downs" I nearly cried.

Last month Amii released an EP and an album, and even though my favourite song isn't on either, this highlights her prolific nature as a songwriter, and a singer after my own heart; write lots of songs, do lots of gigs, and if you're gonna play someone else's music it's gonna have to be a Beatles song or an old soul number, otherwise what's the point? And who cares if no-one else likes that kind of thing ... but let's be honest, who doesn't like John Lennon or Smokey Robinson? Poor Misguided Fools ...

Go out and watch Amii play live, buy her CDs and hopefully her 'Little Blue Book' of songs will stay with you like they have me and she'll keep writing for years to come. I'm excited at the prospect.

This afternoon I'm on the radio, the FM airwaves in Birmingham again, this time Switch Radio​ at noon to collect this beautiful piece of glass for "Best Independent Male Singer/Songwriter in the Midlands" ... the award ceremony itself was a little like graduating from university, you wait for ages to go up and you don't really get anything aside from a handshake on the stage ... but this was worth the wait ... not that graduating university wasn't ... or was it ?!

Things I Like ... Coffee

This one may come as a shocker to many, but the Peace, Love & Tea movement isn't as narrow minded as all that ! I can enjoy the occasional cappuccino, black coffee or espresso too ! I think the main foundation of my belief is that I just can't really bring myself to trust people who don't like hot drinks, whether it be tea, coffee, hot chocolate, honey and lemon or a nice hot Ribena ... and science is on my side too !

DRinking for yourself warm water is beneficial to digestion, blood flow, thyroid, glands, throat, stomach, liver, kidneys ... and the list goes on ... you should probably start following Peace, Love & Tea on facebook or twitter if you're not already ...

And this time next week it's all about the Coffee Music Project down in Soho, I'll be performing at Freedom Bar on Wardour Street as an amabassador of Project Waterfall ... it's a super mega massive important project, I won't bore you with all the details here, go to the website, but basically, you know water, right? That's stuff we need to live?! And often take for granted coming out the taps?!?! Well, it's all about that ...

Life Affirming Times in Old Deutschland ! MHx (Songs & Whispers Tour Diary 4)

Not long to go now in Germany and I've got to say this last week has brought me so much happiness and joy to be amongst people, performing music and working so hard ... certainly 3 shows in particular have given me so much resolve in the power of live music, the connection between beautiful people and affirmation and reaffirmation that life is good, what I'm doing is good and we're on the right path !

There are so many countless stand out moments in the last few weeks I could write a short novella on the great times I've had, I hope the next few nights down south in Duisberg, I only hope the good people around Dortmund, Dusseldorf and Dinslaken are as good to me as the great folks in the north west have been.

Here's me with Lucky, Annika's Songs & Whispers office dog, and now my good friend, I love that little chap !

Aside from the big city lights of Hamburg and Bremen, I've particularly enjoy seeing the smaller towns and villages, the places like Quelkhorn and Achim covered in snow, seemingly like German postcard spots, beautiful places and beautiful people, so much history.

But tonight's show in Syke was one of the most enjoyable I have played anywhere, ever ! A massive amount of people turning out in a beautiful space, a museum of contemporary art, much like my favourite home town show at the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery,which I hope to heading back to before the summer, and talking of heading back, I will definitely definitely definitely definitely be back in Germany before you can say "eine tasser tee mit milch!"

The Place I Love ... The Cookie, Coffee Shop & Music Venue, Leicester

New blog section today ... 'The Place I Love ...' will be all about places here, there and everywhere that, well, I Love, and that mean something to me, on this journey we call life, and this road we call living. Title taken from one of my favourite songs, on one of my favourite albums by one of my favourite bands of all time, 'The Place I Love' from 'All Mod Cons' by The Jam. You Beauty !!

Anyway, first stop on this tour of people, places and faces, The Cookie, Leicester, my home from home in my current home town. Looking forward to being back there performing again, it having been a little while, this Saturday for Matt Henshaw's Peace, Love & Tea Birthday Party with The Strangler Figs, Elizabeth Cornish and the DMU Gospel Choir !!



So, for the place itself, situated on High Street in Leicester City Centre, it's a prime locale for tea and coffee and fantastic grub, and some of the musical highlights in the city of Leicester in the evening. A place for all the beautiful people of Leicester to hang out, be entertained and guaranteed good times !!

Someone said to me quite recently, and I wish I could remember who it was, that The Cookie is so great because everyone knows what they're doing, from the food to the bar staff, sound engineers to the door staff, promoters and the owners. And wonderful people they all are too.

The owners know what they're doing for sure, and The Cookie will keep on getting bigger and better, before it takes of legendary status in Leicester City Centre and the midlands. When a place is ran by a lady straight out of Tallahassee and a gentleman so enthusiastic, bordering on obsessive with the independent live music and comedy scene, you know the coffee (and the tea) and the food is gonna be good, and you know the line-ups of bands, artist and comedians is gonna be second-to-none for a small city in the East Midlands of England !!

It's won a Dave's Comedy Award, hosting some bigger and bigger names, and I'm sure it will for many years to come ... board games and a pot of tea on the terrace ASAP would be my number one recommendation ...

Keep up the good work everyone involved, and hope to see loads of you beautiful people from LEicester and beyond this Saturday for my birthday party, it's gonna be one great night amongst many !!
