Peace, Love & Tea Everybody ! Hope you're all well ...

Matt Henshaw Belief Is All 2016
Peace, Love & Tea Everybody !  Hope you're all well ...
I've been a little out of action over the last 3 months, without any real access to the internet at home and minimal mobile data, in the modern world it's been very difficult to communicate with you all.  Don't blame me, blame the not so good people at TalkTalk.  Fingers crossed I'll have more luck with my new provider ...

In many ways it's put a pause on all things Peace, Love & Tea in my one man "business" world, but in other ways it's been bliss, as Sophocles alluded, "Ignorance is", whilst I've missed your communication, love and support, I've also missed out on all the "banter", "locker room talk" and general nonsense that comes with FacebookTwitter and Instagram et al.

But, I have been busy, a successful festival run with the band, a trip into Notts TV, a quick chat with BBC Introducing, and there is new music on the way.  So if you'll allow me to get all my houses in order, I've got some exciting updates to come and plenty more Matt Henshaw brand Peace, Love & Tea to share.

In the meantime, please keep watching the vidssharing the tunes and I look forward to seeing you at a show or sharing your comments on my work in the near future.

Peace, Love & Tea indeed, MHx

Matt Henshaw Recommends ... Amii Dawes

I Love Amii Dawes. Quite simply one of the best songwriters I've had the pleasure of playing with in this last year of touring.

In fact, the only person I've played with that has written a song that I genuinely wish I'd written, or feel like it is a song I should have written, but someone else got there first !!

'Tiny Little English Town' is about her native Northampton could be about any little town, village or small city in England. The imagery, the poetry, the melody is magnificent. When I first heard her sing the couplet "this Tiny Little English Town, where even in our dreams we're wearing hand-me-downs" I nearly cried.

Last month Amii released an EP and an album, and even though my favourite song isn't on either, this highlights her prolific nature as a songwriter, and a singer after my own heart; write lots of songs, do lots of gigs, and if you're gonna play someone else's music it's gonna have to be a Beatles song or an old soul number, otherwise what's the point? And who cares if no-one else likes that kind of thing ... but let's be honest, who doesn't like John Lennon or Smokey Robinson? Poor Misguided Fools ...

Go out and watch Amii play live, buy her CDs and hopefully her 'Little Blue Book' of songs will stay with you like they have me and she'll keep writing for years to come. I'm excited at the prospect.

Peace, Love & Tea, MHx

Matt Henshaw Recommends ... Josh Wheatley

A sweet little evening recommendation for you tonight. The teenage singing songwriting maestro that is Josh Wheatley. Ever present for the past year or so on the Nottingham music scene, the barefooted songsmith has been delicately caressing the listening ears of the city and building up an arsenal of tunes and admirers and I, for one, can understand just why.

Growing up in Ilkeston, as I did through the first chapter of my life, I can easily understand too why there's an underlying theme of escapism through Wheatley's oeuvre. And it's not to Ilkeston's detriment, the little place can be an inspirational stomping ground, but there's something of a yearning to get away when you grow up in a small town that resides in one of the furthest points from the sea in the UK. Funny then that a lot of the imagery and symbolism in Josh's tunes revolves around the ocean, sailing and boats !!

But that's maybe more so down to folkloric tradition, and whimsical tales, who doesn't love a good sea shanty, or a tale on the high seas ? So with music, escapism and yearning in mind, on stage is where Josh, like myself, is clearly at his most comfortable, us musicians do our best to be sociable off stage, but we end up talking about capos (on which JW is an expert) and diminished sevenths (I try!), but that's not all that entertaining.

Come down to The Contemporary in Nottingham this Saturday and see Josh as the main support to myself, plus a short burst from MotorMouf, at my FREE Peace, Love & Tea Party !! You will not be disappointed, feel the love, spread the love and see what Ilkeston, Nottingham, The East Midlands has to offer ... you will be more than pleasantly surprised, especially I'd assume by this young man I refer to as "Josh 'ever-so-sweetly' Wheatley" ... I'm not sure if he likes that though ?!

Setlist from Tamworth ...

Well that was an all day marathon in Tamworth Town at the last minute. Good day though. Caught up with some old friends and sent thoughts to some who couldn't be with us. And ReggiiMental performed four sets. Nice one to all involved and all the goodness done for charity ...

My set was, short and sweet and an acoustic tickle of the ear that echo down the ages in T Town ... so I'm told anyways ...

It Ain't Easy
Me & You
The World's Gone Mad
Can't Hold Back
Bonne Nuit Madame / Stand By the Window

So, more new bits and some sing-a-longs ... yes I'm pleased to say the beautiful people of Tamworth were singing along. Get in !

And here's a blurry image, but 'tis me ... in the red pea-coat (it was so bloomin' cold I kept it on all day) ...

Playing in Tamworth tonight ...

Just got off the blower to Jimmy B-Boy aka. ReggiiMental ... apparently I've been booked to play a show for months in Tamworth town for the charitable events and affairs of OxJam ... so I'd suppose I'd better make my way over there and kick out some jams in the style of the MC5, or not ...

I'll let you know how it goes ... but, for now here's the last time myself and Regii hung out in Tamworth picking up loose women ...

And the time before that, but unfortunately Joey G-Zus won't be there this time ...

With Love,
Matt Henshaw x

My driving (mis)adventures ...

Remember these previous blogs ... I passed my driving test at the start of the month ... and I got a parking fine (before I'd even passed my test) ...

Well, I been posted up on my fabulous driving instructor's website ... thanks for taking a snap Richard, looking positively rock'n'roll as usual for having passed my driving test on a Monday lunchtime ... and folks, if you're in the East Midlands and you need quality driving instruction and someone who will help you into the first time passers club ... scroll down for me, I'm at the bottom ...

And yes, finally, I received message from Leicester City Council ... the fine has been cancelled and we can all rejoice and return to our carefree lifestyle ... (although LCC did contradict themselves in the letter that said when loading and unloading you should park ON the kerb, and then later in the letter it says leave the pavement clear so as to not obstruct wheelchairs and prams, but we all know it's illegal to park on kerbs anyways, right?)

Watch this !

That's The Way God Planned It,
see you later x

'My Week' by Matt Henshaw (2/10/11-8/10/11)

Passed my driving test !

Saw Sheffield Wednesday lurch up the second in League 1 (I still think that makes it sound half OK, like "league one" means the top division)

Wished my brother a happy birthday on the other side of the world
(he's in Bangkok and all he wants is a nice cup of tea ... but apparently his Mrs. was going to get him a lady boy for his birthday!)

Played poker with the boys ... won ... obviously ... the prize? Dinner bought for on the following night as we went out and watch England draw in spectacular style in a European Qualifier against Montenegro ... (for my North American readers - I know you're out there - a draw is when both teams have the same number of goals/points at the end of a game, and we consider this OK) ...

Today ... did a couple of talks at the University of Leicester about how going to University after you're twenty one is a good idea ie. as a mature student ie. an old codger (I am considered old and mature in certain facets of society ... as my mate Mark said "when I first met you and you was wearing a dressing gown, slippers and sipping a cup of tea I thought you was going to be posh ... but it turns out you're just a little old man" ... the best review I've ever had!!!)

NOW?! Hibernation, reading, Ealing Comedies ... and my next two musical projects are taking shape nicely.

Sit tight for a Ringo Starr style headshot et cheesy grin... peace and love, Peace & Love ...

#nowplaying Marvin Gaye, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Miles Kane, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Lee Perry ...

Happy Birthday Brother ... I can (legally) drive !

Psychedelic Salutations to you all,

October is well under way now ... usually the sun cream is tucked away in the cupboard now with a blanket and it's feet in some hot water, but not in 2011, oh no! I have sweat today more than I did throughout the entirety of July and August ... thanks for asking ... anyway, it's my brother's birthday !

He's in Thailand ... I am not ... but I am celebrating in my own way. It is three years since I had a drink (of alcohol, of course, not juice ... and I only mention it so it would be something to clap and cheer me for, even if you don't like me or my music, it's good for my self-esteem, although I don't know why people do that ... I knew a kid at school who ate crayons and sucked the ink out of ball point pens, I'll be he hasn't done that for twenty years but I wonder if he gets a pat on the back?) ... and, also, anyway, the point is, I passed my practical driving test today ... with flying colours ... again, thanks for asking ...

Matt Henshaw - 1
Noel Gallagher - 0

... and special mention and apologies to my best bud, former Censored drummer Chris Goring, for all those years he spent on the road a the designated driver with me in the passenger or in the back, usually ginned off my face being a general nuisance. I love you pal, and good to finally join you in the first time passers club ...

(on the previous blog's previously incurred parking fine, Leicester Council got in touch today and told me that the charge has been frozen ... I will be notified of any further developments ... which I will pass on to you of course as my loyal adoring(?) cyber world wide web fans ... I love you all too, and hope you appreciate me taking time out from my busy(?!) schedule to inform of my daily life ... (music to come ... I am aware that I have gone quiet on that front in the blog-o-sphere ... it's because I want to get everything right before I unleash anything on the unsuspecting world, and, of course I have minor inconveniences on the agenda such as parking penalty charge notices, driving tests and wishing siblings on the other side of the world a "happy birthday" ... bear with me) ...

Bit of a rant this one isn't it ... "nice blogging!" I hear you cry ... if you like your Matt Henshaw rants to be contained to 140 characters or less then follow me on Twitter ... but beware of much football related ranting ... "and it's oh Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Wendesday FC, are by far the greatest team the world have ever seen" ...

White Rabbits and Happy October Day ...

Well, the heat is exhausting. Pleasurable, but what is it doing here in Britain in October ?

And the football results from today are very pleasing indeed ... (me pictured below looking cool in Suited Magazine and feeling good about Sheffield Wednesday getting promoted this season ... fingers are crossed) ...

Have a good OktoberFest all my German friends ... (there are some, I wish I could remember exactly when it actually is though) ...

Come on Wednesday ! Come on Leicester ! Come on England ! See you next week ...
