James requested some juice recipes, so this one I've come up with all by myself especially for the yuletide season.  Christmas Juice is made from Cranberries, Brussels, Half a Pear, Half an Apple, Lime & Ginger, and it comes out bright pink and super healthy !!
Try it yourself, so says Neil Buchanan !

HAPPY & HEALTHY HOLIDAYS !!
Aside from the music, I do like sharing positivity with you all, and I firmly believe that what you put in your body directly affects what comes out ... I was talking to a friend / fan / wonderful being yesterday, and she said that she'll be filling stockings with fruit and vegetables for her two kids !!  "Amazing", I thought ... but, I understand, you might not want to practice such a creative form of child abuse this Christmas, but I do hope you're all gonna get your 5, 7, 10, 12-a-day amongst whatever else might be heading down your gullet as we go on into the new year ...

Anyways, enough rambling, have a happy one and do all and everything in Peace, Love & Tea, Speak Soon !!

Tippy The Cat ...

With his growing fanbase on Facebook and Twitter, in recent interview I was asked how I would if my cat became more famous than me?? Well, I said I wouldn't mind, and of course I wouldn't, he's great, funny, cute, pretty much like Ryan Gosling if he didn't have such an ugly little face, I Love Him !

If you love him too then go like and follow him ... then I might share my short stories with you ... right now, he's currently plotting to pull down the Christmas tree !

MERRY ROCKIN' CHRISTMAS - In The Presence Of The Lord - Matt Henshaw

Here's a little song I wrote ...

Merry Christmas !

Matt Henshaw 'In The Presence Of The Lord'

Recorded, Produced, Mixed & Mastered by Tristan Ivemy.

Recorded at Miloco Islington, Metropolis and Battery Studios, London, England, United Kingdom.

Vocals, Backing Vocals, Rhythm Guitar & Lead Guitar by Matt Henshaw.
Backing Vocals by Christopher Owen.
Bass & Backing Vocals by Nathan Clarke.
Drums, Percussion & Backing Vocals by Chris Goring.
Horn Arrangements, Percussion & Backing Vocals by Tristan Ivemy.

Well, he don't want to stay here
Not another day here
Because just like me he can't stand the weather

We all know that planet earth is blue
And we all know that love is true
If only it could last forever

In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love

You want to go out and kiss the son
From the moment your life had begun
But first my children you must learn to kiss the sky

From the moment you walk through the door
It's the moment you had to be sure
That things they ain't never going to get any better

In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love

Om Om Om

In the passing of time
Well I've looked and I've but I still couldn't
Someone quite like you
Somebody who would die for love

In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
All you hold in your hands is all that you need
For the sake of your brothers and sisters you'd die for love
You would die for love
You would die for love
You would die die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord
You'd die for love
In The Presence Of The Lord

Matt Henshaw Recommends ... The Simpletones

Something a little different for you this time around. Vocal harmonies, doo-wop and barbershop. My kind of sound for an evening out. These 4 chaps could quite happily sit on any stage or feature with any act, the vocal dexterity and skill with which they twist and unfurl through any live performance is second to none. I saw them perform for the first time the other week in Leicester and let's just say my socks were knocked off, they flew right across the room. 4 genuinely talented vocalists, snappy dressers and, most importantly, nice guys, definitely good guys.

Absolutely solid in their barbershop foundation, with a knowledge and an ear for the history of the traditional singing style but The Simpletones easily adapt to soulful doo wop Drifters style or re-interpretations of pop hits, easy. As a matter of fact I'd love to hear them do one of mine. Lead Simpletone Simon is one of nicest blokes you're ever likely to meet, don't be put off by his intimidating stature, penchant for blue language and sometimes puerile humour, an honest and decent lover of his trade and a hardworking musician, engineer and school teacher, a credit to everyone who can call him a friend, hopefully now it's safe to say that I am one.

The two Nicks, Nick and Nik I believe, are the heart-throbs, one of each size, whichever you desire, and consummate professionals. Tenor and baritone respectively, the latter Nik provides some 21st century beatboxing occasionally along the way which is a perfect compliments, never too showy or overbearing, it's all about the vocals, but it does vary up a lengthy set, which all four sets of lungs can invariably carry.

And last but not least, Ian the beardy bass man, is a true gent of the highest order, I first met him at a party, stood next to him for a quick chat and to exchange of a few rude jokes before I desperately searched for a kettle. I had no idea he was a singer, or indeed so talented, just a witty filthy humoured bearded fella, let the cover not be thee judgement of thy book. Top fellas all round. I've also seen them make up songs on the spot, excellent stuff, especially when complimenting me on my style and dress sense, nice one Simon !

I was intending to head out to see them this evening switch on some Christmas lights in Leicester city but I've been home playing doctor for my ill girlfriend and sending positive energies to the fellas from my sofa. And hence thus and therefore writing a song for my friend Paul who is getting married next year and has asked me to play at his wedding, something along the lines of It Ain't Easy, but "with a more positive lyric", one can only try, and maybe get The Simpletones to do some doo-wop harmonies and a bass lines for me, how about it boys?

Hows about joining me for some soulful singing anytime boys ... here's me doing one of my own little ditties and a bit of Sam Cooke from The Soul Stirrers himself ...

Matt Henshaw on the radio tonight ...

Hola amigos,

I'll be heading out soon to pick up Mr. ReggiiMental and then head over to the West Midlands to appear on the radio, TCRFM I am told, and then afterwards I'm doing a secret special Christmas show, so secret I have no idea where this second show is myself. I'll tell y'all what happens no doubt.

Radio Matthew x

Laughs and Giggles ...

What a "Segsational night" ... (this blog is brought to you by Terry's ... the chocolate orange people) ...

Tim Minchin is really rather quite funny isn't he ... quite the Christmas treat, and making me think of my brother sipping white wine on the beach in Australia this Christmas was quite bittersweet, as I type at you from London approaching a Christmas in Derbyshire via Nottingham, Tamworth, Birmingham, Derby and Leicester I wish I could throw another shrimp on the barbie this Christmas. Nevermind, I'll make do with an Iceland prawn party ring.

Paul Weller was great obviously, and great to hear a good set comprised of songs only two of which were over 5 years old. I think some of the older contingent would've left unhappy if he hadn't closed with a seemingly reluctant encore of 'Town Called Malice' ...

Anyhoo, I think I'm gonna be on an FM radio Christmas extra special on Friday night ... I'll let you know more as soon as I know.

Peace & Love, scroll down for a picture of me trying to stare into your soul,
Matt H. x

A Little Musical Update ... plus bonus Christmas Dinner blog ...

Even though my recent football blogs have proved to be my most popular ever ... even more so than the picture of me and my mate Will Young and the week I passed my driving test (it pleases me no end that you're so interested and supportive!) ... I thought I'd return today to the reason I presume you're all here in the first place, and certainly why I set up this blog in the first place: to inform and update you with my musical adventures ... I've been quite busy of late in my secret identity, getting things done and certain things written ... so, new paragraph ...

I've written four new songs this week. The first of which is quite possibly one of the worst things I've ever written and sang out loud, although only to myself, called 'A Domino Effect', it actually had the rhyme of "moon" and "June" ... terrible, you'll never hear it ... but the other three are quite a different story entirely ... three of my favourite songs I've ever written, even though perhaps you always feel that way when you first write them, I really feel like they're some of the best things I've ever written and sang aloud, and this time to people who agree. Of late I have been listening to a lot of Sam Cook (obviously!), Juliette Gréco and Serge Gainsbourg, and watching a lot of soppy films but I won't go into what they are (I might reveal all of my real influences one day!) ... you will hear them, eventually. I am heading to my mate ReggiiMental's basement studio (The Deepest Cellar) tomorrow to lay down some acoustic demos, and to catch up and that, it's been a while.

A quick update on 'Living with a Dirty Leeds Fan' ... we had a Christmas dinner tonight which was lovely, everyone contributing, plenty of sprouts, potatoes, cabbage and of course a big cooked bird plus some pigs in blankets and a gammon shank ... because one load of meat is just not enough, and even though I've flirted with it, I'm not sure vegetarianism could be a serious consideration within my current lifestyle ... I already don't drink, and people think that's eccentric enough ... ... furthermore to the tale, his date went well, she did indeed enjoy here milkshake, laugh at his terrible jokes and play with her hair ! That boy talks some serious Phil Babb-le, and can't help but use awful football puns ...

We even had Christmas crackers complete with Christmas hats ...

Bye for now,
Matt H x

PS. GOTF (Guffaw on the Floor) should be the new LMAO ...

The Xmas Mod Ball with Geno Washington ...

What a splendid evening, I got up and did my thing, but enough about me ...

Geno! Geno! Geno! What a performer, coming on looking like Othello, aged 68, quoting Shakespeare and singing like a proper bona-fide soul brother #1 ! His set was like a soul compilation CD I made back in the day - before mp3 players, but after cassettes - classic after classic and he didn't come up for air, just down with the soul and funk and more 'tween song witticism than any performer I've seen ...

Love to the Small Fakers and Melanie Dayna and John Hellier and all who enjoyed also ...

So, boxed ticked, played the legendary 100 Club ... seen the equally as legendary Geno Washington and shook his hand ... sorry, no pics ... they may follow, keep it locked on MattHenshaw11 - the blog that's 11 times as good as any other, or maybe you should read it eleven time-a-day to digest it properly because it's so erudite and literate - or maybe someday I'll tell you the true story of the number 11 ... I'll save that for a particularly slow news day ...

I needs to get me one of them smart phones dun'I ...

PEACE and Merry Chrimbo all the same ! x

Matt Henshaw

Thursday, 1 December 2011

On the first day of Chri... December ...

I guess it's a warm welcome to the festive season for y'all, even though it feels like it's been approaching Christmas from the moment the Halloween costumes went away, or Guy Fawkes said "ta ra" from the top of the bonfire (effigies talk like Cilla Black you know?!) ...

Eagle eyed and eared Matt Henshaw followers from yester-year will know that I usually get pretty diary happy over the Christmas season ... tales of Psammead and the snakes and gifts for all and sometimes recipes - yes, it's been known - so we'll just have to wait and see how much I can offer you in the year of our Lord 2011 ...

This is me this afternoon working on my George Harrison 1968 look ...

I hope to see a few of you at the 100 Club this weekend for my little guest slot with Geno Washington ... should be a heck of a lot of festive fun !

Guesting at the Christmas Mod Ball with Geno Washington ...

In case you didn't gather from my previous cryptic blog ... I'll be getting up for a number or two with Melanie Dayna before the great man himself Geno Washington and the Small Fakers take to the stage of the world famous 100 Club on Oxford Street, London Town.

I'll be doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that that ... singing songs and looking smart ... one hopes !

Sorry for the lack of updates through Mo-vember (abandoned about 8 or 9 days in by the way!), but Matthew Henshaw, my alter-ego, has been busy with thems and theres ... y'know how it goes ... I hope everyone had a grand Halloween anyhow and burnt some wood on bonfire night ... oh how I do enjoy a good fire ...

Time and Trivialities,
MHx
