Matt Henshaw Recommends ... Motormouf

Home in Nottingham this week so I thought I'd catch up on what going on, before I play Rescue Rooms tonight, Guitar Bar Wednesday and Walkabout Thursday, I dashed down the A52 from a festival in Leek, and headed for the Golden Fleece because I knew that where my man Alex Motormouf Young was doing his thing ! I know I missed a lot of other things going off in the city but I'm sure you can forgive me for taking in just one show, and my phone died just going past the delightful Long Eaton ...

Anyway, enough of my real life situations ... Motormouf knocked me for six. I've played with and seen some top notch beatboxers in my time, Killa Kella, Beardyman, The PeteBox, and Mr Chonky Beatz, who all have talent in buckets and spades, but Alex has to be one of the nicest and most entertaining guys I've ever met, on and off stage. Granted, stick him on the stage and it's like watching a wind up bunny having the time of his life, a born performer.

Captivated a compact but lively British Bank Holiday crowd, he captured an excellently balanced set of humour, wit, slightly virtuoso and ultimately very musical, playing a rare solo set, usually playing with his group Just James you wouldn't believe that half of the time he was "just trying things out" as he weaves effortlessly from his own compositions, through Massive Attack, Ol' Dirty and the Wu Tang Clan, Sly & The Family Stone and, my personal favourite, a bit of A Tribe Called Quest ... "What's The Scenario?!"

Jump at any chance to see this magical, mystical, musical maestro, he's a mighty fine talent and a mighty fine gent, and funny as the proverbial f-word !

And now, for no reason whatsoever, although I'm sure there's a story behind it, here's a picture of the wonderful, beautiful Esther Van Leuven ...

'The Deepest Cellar' 4 Year Anniversary ...

Coming Around again ...

Good Morning,

Found myself waking up at 7am this morning, so I thought I'd do as Gary Neville says and attack the day ... his autobiography is pretty good by the way, it's no Alice in Wonderland but for a footballer from Bury/Salford it ain't half bad grammar wise n that ...

It's been over a week since my last blog believe it or not ! The reasons for this are three, four, maybe five or six fold. I've been away for a while at my "country retreat" taking a well earned break from heavily promoting Coming Around, writing new songs for Satsuma Elephants (tour and festival dates Coming Around soon, and some videos to share with you this month!), writing some diaries about working with ReggiiMental back in 2010, I've had no internets or phone signal and my blog last Monday had more views than anything I've ever written on here before ... the message must be getting through. Everyone who enjoyed the entertainment at Sounddhism @ the Bodega, Nottingham last Saturday must have gotten into the office on Monday morning with nothing better to do ... thank goodness for that ! Thanks for reading, viewing, listening and, hopefully, enjoying !

Anyways, what to tell ? I suppose a quick next phase album update before I get into anything too heavy Satsuma-wise or feed you more tales of Matt Henshaw & ReggiiMental Coming Around ... if there are any MCs, DJs, producers, singers, bands or beatmakers out there who want to be involved in a Creative Commons remix, refix and rework project of the new album, entire album and more then download this Coming Around Remix Pack and share it with as many people as you like, as you can and as you will ...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/7ouv6s

The aim is to collect as many different version of the record, the songs and ideas as possible, release it all for free on your SoundCloud, YouTube, wherever you stick your stuff online and possibly there'll be an official Matt Henshaw release at the end and, basically, through the beauty of music and the internet we'll all have so much more to share, revel and roll around in !!! I Love You All .... Get To Work ... Tell A Friend !!!

In the meantime, keep watching the vids ...

And keep on listening ...

And Keep Fighting !

'Coming Around' Preview & Pre-Order !!!

So here we are, less than a month until Coming Around from myself and ReggiiMental hits the internet like a bad case of the mumps ... have a listen to the title track first, and if it makes you happy pre-order the whole thing, 15 tracks of B-Boy Soul goodness ...

Click the pic and get yourself down in The Deepest Cellar for another round of soul swingin' !!!

Keep it here for more updates ... competitions, radio news, festival news, gig news and more and more to come ... we'll be hitting Nottingham, Derby, Birmingham, High Wycombe, Coventry and more in the coming months ... so if you live in those places or anywhere else it's time to get your best boots on and do some groovin' !

B-Boy Soul - The Second Episode ...

Hey there ho there howdy,

As February progresses there's a lot going on, The Deepest Cellar Part 2 has 14 tracks I can reveal and will be titled 'Coming Around' ... you've all heard the snippet of the lead track ... go on listen to it again ... B-Boy Soul coming at you !

Other bits in the works and live dates in the pipes ... watch this space !
